Teacher Specific FAQ

Frequently asked questions regarding teacher technology are listed.

Files/Storage

Where are my files now located?

Files/folders that were stored in your H: drive on the server are now located in the Libraries section of your PC. You can find them by selecting the Start button/ThisPC/Libraries. You will see folders labeled Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos. You will no longer have a mapped network drive labeled H:/ in your directory. Also note that files/folders/shortcuts saved to your desktop are also saved on the server.

**This does not apply to those affected by the data loss at ICES.

Where all all the desktop icons?

Available programs can be found by selecting the Start button/Program Files and browsing the list to the desired program. Access to web-based programs (i.e. Scholastic, Infinite Campus, etc.) can be found on the Resources section of the corporation webpage and bookmarked through Chrome. If you are looking for a specific program not listed on the resources page, let us know. We will need to determine if it will be accessible in the new system.

What if my H:/ drive files have been lost?

During a system crash at ICES, some H:/ drives were corrupted and unrecoverable. There were 10 people affected by this data loss. We were able to recover a small number of files/directories but the owner information has been lost.

To determine if these files could be yours, you have two options.

1) You may send a help desk ticket with the name of the file (or close to the name) that you are looking to recover. We will search the files to see if that particular one is available.

2) You may set a time with Brian Boehnlein to come over and search through the files with him. You will be able to see the available files and determine if they belong to you.

Internet Access

I receive a "Webpage not found" error in Chrome.

You will need to complete the following steps (one time) to authenticate to the content filter and use the Internet.

  1. Open a new tab in Chrome

  2. Go to www.amazon.com

  3. The blue Lightspeed filter screen will appear

  4. Enter your computer login information

  5. Click Yes to the notification to save the information in Chrome

You will then be directed to Amazon.com and can browse to other websites.

Printing

I am not able to print.

Printing is a policy that is still being configured. Teacher machines will be unable to print until these policies are implemented. You will have access to the copy machines in the workroom as well as the printer at the end of your hallway.

How can I print to a PDF (create a PDF)?

If you are working in the Microsoft Office Suite or Google Docs/Sheets, you can choose to SAVE as a PDF file type.

  • Choose SAVE AS

  • Change the file type to .pdf

  • Enter a name for the document

  • Click OK

If you want to save a webpage, you will need to add the PDF Create extension to your Chrome.

  • Open Chrome

  • Copy/Paste the following link into the address bar  https://goo.gl/MP9YGD

  • Add the Adobe Acrobat Create PDF extension to your Chrome
